Artà has one of the best preserved historic centres in Mallorca, with the Sant Salvador sanctuary above and the streets climbing towards it.
The Artà house is stone, tall and narrow, with several floors and an internal staircase. Much of the centre is protected, so the installation is resolved internally, exiting through the courtyard or an inner roof.
There is a good deal of foreign buying of old houses to renovate, and plenty of small country hotels in manor houses.
And Colònia de Sant Pere is quiet coast, no mass tourism, seasonal houses and villas with the bay's salt air.

Working inside an old town is a different trade. The house tends to be narrow and tall, with an internal courtyard, a stone staircase and floor structures that are not always where the drawing says.
The first thing is knowing what is listed. Facade, courtyard, staircase, original ceilings. That decides where the duct can run and where the outdoor unit can go, and it is worth knowing before ordering anything.
The internal courtyard is nearly always the answer, because it allows a route to the roof without touching the facade. But it is shared and narrow, so it has to be solved without taking light from anyone and with the noise under control.
And heights change from floor to floor and even room to room. A standard route is no use here: it is measured room by room, deciding what gets dropped and what stays.
Right by the sea an installation does not age the same way. The air carries chlorides, and chloride eats the zinc off galvanised steel well before its time. Ductwork that would last inland starts pitting here within a few years.
