Sóller has something no other Tramuntana town has: a large centre of three-storey townhouses, and a port three kilometres away with a completely different profile.
In the town we work on a lot of old houses with courtyards, stone staircases and ceilings that change height between the main floor and the one above. Many are listed, so the first thing is knowing what can be touched.
The Port has hotels, seafront restaurants and seasonal apartments. There, salt air rules and so does the calendar: whatever gets done, gets done with the business closed.
And through the valley, among the orange groves, there are converted fincas and agrotourism where what is asked for is that the unit cannot be heard.

In the Tramuntana no two houses are alike, and almost none was built with ductwork in mind. Half-metre stone walls, vaulted floor structures, exposed timber beams the owner has no intention of hiding, and ceilings that change height from room to room.
Here the route is the project. It is not drawn in an office: it is drawn in the house, going up to look at what sits above each ceiling. Sometimes the right route is not the short one, it is the one that does not force you to touch a beam.
Exposed beams stay exposed. If the owner wants to keep them, and they almost always do, the duct goes wherever it can be hidden: a cupboard, a corridor, a loft. It can be done, but it has to be drawn beforehand, not improvised.
The facade is usually listed. That governs where the outdoor unit can go and how the duct can reach the roof. We look at it with you and, if needed, propose the solution the town hall will actually accept rather than the one that causes trouble.
And access. Single-car streets, nowhere to park, sometimes steps. Fabricating the ductwork in our workshop and bringing it up ready is not a bonus here: it is the only way to do the job without blocking the village for three days.
Right by the sea an installation does not age the same way. The air carries chlorides, and chloride eats the zinc off galvanised steel well before its time. Ductwork that would last inland starts pitting here within a few years.
