Valldemossa is one of the most visited villages on the island and at the same time one of the most restrictive about anything visible from outside. The Charterhouse, the cobbled streets and the historic setting govern any installation.
The typical house here is stone, narrow, two or three storeys, with an internal staircase and small rooms. There is no useful suspended ceiling: the route is found through cupboards, corridors and lofts.
There is a good deal of foreign-owned property used a few months a year, and plenty of high-end seasonal letting where what is paid for is silence and nothing on show.
Access governs the day to day: single-car streets with nowhere to unload. Anything that can arrive pre-fabricated, does.

In the Tramuntana no two houses are alike, and almost none was built with ductwork in mind. Half-metre stone walls, vaulted floor structures, exposed timber beams the owner has no intention of hiding, and ceilings that change height from room to room.
Here the route is the project. It is not drawn in an office: it is drawn in the house, going up to look at what sits above each ceiling. Sometimes the right route is not the short one, it is the one that does not force you to touch a beam.
Exposed beams stay exposed. If the owner wants to keep them, and they almost always do, the duct goes wherever it can be hidden: a cupboard, a corridor, a loft. It can be done, but it has to be drawn beforehand, not improvised.
The facade is usually listed. That governs where the outdoor unit can go and how the duct can reach the roof. We look at it with you and, if needed, propose the solution the town hall will actually accept rather than the one that causes trouble.
And access. Single-car streets, nowhere to park, sometimes steps. Fabricating the ductwork in our workshop and bringing it up ready is not a bonus here: it is the only way to do the job without blocking the village for three days.
Working inside an old town is a different trade. The house tends to be narrow and tall, with an internal courtyard, a stone staircase and floor structures that are not always where the drawing says.
